Is it safe?

For your safety, we require all passengers to wear a life jacket when taking the Hozugawa River Boat Ride.
Passengers who refuse to wear a life jacket or are unable to wear one will be denied boarding. .
We have life jackets available for adults and children, so you can board with peace of mind.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Do I need to make reservations for the boat trip?

Same-day ticket purchases at the local ticket office allow for immediate boarding under normal circumstances. However, during peak periods such as holidays and the autumn foliage season, waiting times may occur. Additionally, weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances may lead to waiting times even during off-peak seasons. Please be aware of these possibilities. Groups of 10 or more must make a reservation by phone. (For the winter period from December to March 9, reservations are accepted by phone for one person or more.) Groups of 9 or fewer can use online reservations. If you plan to visit during the foliage season without a reservation, arriving early is highly recommended.

To board the boat, please fill out the application form provided at the boarding location and follow the boarding procedure. Your boarding time will be announced through the public address system.
Please note that the boarding order may be modified based on the size of each group.

Is the boat operated even in the rain? When is it canceled?

The boat tour is canceled in case of flooding (dangerous water level) or bad weather. However, in case of rain, the boat will be operated with a canopy. Umbrellas are not allowed because they may be a nuisance to other passengers.

Could I get wet during the tour? What type of clothing should I wear for the best experience?

The boat has a wave protection sheet, but it may not be 100% effective depending on the water level of the river. If you really don't want to get wet, we recommend bringing a raincoat.
Getting splashed with water is also one of the highlights of Hozugawa River Boat Ride.

How long does it take?

The duration varies depending on the water level of the river, but it is about 90 minutes. It takes about 60 minutes for high water levels and about 110 minutes for low water levels.

Is it possible that I can't get on the boat because it is full?

During the Golden Week and the November autumn season, there are a few times a year when the boat is full and we have to turn away customers.

What age can I bring my child on the boat ride?

Passengers must be at least 80 cm tall to board the boat. This is a safety requirement for all passengers, regardless of age. Children under 80 cm tall will not be permitted to board the boat.

Is it safe for pregnant women to board?

It is not recommended for women who are less than 5 or 6 months pregnant, but you can board at your own risk.

Can I eat or drink on board?

No, there is no food service on the boat. Yes, you can bring your own food and drinks on board. However, please be considerate of other passengers and avoid making a mess.

Are there any toilets on board?

There are toilets in the waiting room before boarding. However, there are no toilets on board, so please use the toilets before boarding. There is a public bathroom at the landing site in Arashiyama.

Can I bring my dog with me on the boat?

Yes, you can bring your pet on board. However, please contact the office in advance to confirm that your pet is allowed.

What is the best season to go on a Hozugawa River Boat Ride?

Each season has its own unique charm. Spring is a great time to see the cherry blossoms, summer is a refreshing time to enjoy the cool breeze, autumn is a beautiful time to see the fall foliage, and winter is a magical time to see the snow-covered scenery.

Yes, the Hozugawa River Boat Ride is available in the winter.

I'm worried about the sun in the summer.

There is a canopy on the boats to protect passengers from the sun. However, please avoid using umbrellas on the boat, as they can be a hazard to other passengers.

I can't swim. Is that okay?

You don't need to be able to swim to go on a Hozugawa River Boat Ride. Life jackets are also provided for all passengers.

Can people with disabilities go on the Hozugawa River Boat Ride?

One attendant person is needed the person with physical disabilities's one about one person of a first-class person with disabilities and person of less than 12-year-old second-class mentally-disabled person. (An embarkation charge will be 10% discount both people.)

(However, wheelchair users must be able to transfer to a seat on the boat. )

I get motion sickness easily. Will I get sick on the Hozugawa River Boat Ride?

There is no need to worry about motion sickness as there are no waves like the ocean. However, if you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to take some precautions, such as taking motion sickness medication before boarding the boat.

Can I pay with a credit card?

How far is it from the finishing point to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station?

It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk from the finishing point to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station.

Can I take photos inside the boat?

Yes, you can take photos inside the boat. However, please be careful not to stand up in the boat, as there are some dangerous areas. If you have any questions, please ask the boatman.

Can I choose my seat?

On regular boats, the seats are assigned by the boatman. However, on private boats, you can choose your seats.

Is the parking lot close to the ticket office (the boarding point)?

Yes, the ticket office and parking lot are located in the same area.
